BIOGRAPHY
After the show ended in 1974, Bonaduce made numerous television guest appearances on Police Story, CHiPs, Fantasy Island, and Eight Is Enough among other programs. Like many child stars, Bonaduce had a hard time getting work and got into drugs and other sorts of trouble. He was arrested several times for assault and drug possession, including a 1991 arrest for assaulting a transvestite in Phoenix.
By the late 1980s, Bonaduce found a new career in radio. His gravelly voice, sense of humor, and frank style of talking led to a series of disc jockey jobs, beginning in Philadelphia. While working in at a station in Phoenix, Bonaduce met Gretchen Hillmer. The two got married on a blind date in 1990. He then moved to jobs in Detroit, New York, and Chicago. In 2000, he ended up in Los Angeles on the highly rated The Jamie and Danny Show.
Besides his successful L.A. radio job, Bonaduce took on several new projects. He wrote about his experiences in his 2001 autobiography Random Acts of Badness and served as one of the hosts of The Other Half, a talk show, with Dick Clark and Mario Lopez—another former child star. In 2002, Bonaduce took on Barry Williams, who played Greg on The Brady Bunch, in a televised boxing match.
In 2005, Bonaduce was fired from his radio program and opened his private life for public viewing. He starred in the reality television series Breaking Bonaduce on the VH1 cable network. The cameras followed him everywhere as he struggled with drugs and alcohol and tries to save his marriage to wife Gretchen. The filming of the show continued even after Bonaduce attempted suicide.
Despite his dark moods, Bonaduce seems to be a survivor and continues bounce back after each setback. Breaking Bonaduce returned for a second season in 2006 with a clean and sober Bonaduce still wrestling his demons. That same year, he became the host of Starface, a game show that tests contestants on their celebrity knowledge. In January 2007, Bonaduce returned to radio, joining the crew of The Adam Carolla Show on Los Angeles' KLSX-FM.
Danny Bonaduce's first marriage was to Setsuko Hattori in 1985, and the couple divorced a few years later. He was married to second wife Gretchen for more than 18 years and together they have two children: Countess Isabella and Count Dante.
A Los Angeles judge finalized Danny Bonaduce's divorce from his wife, Gretchen, in November 5, 2008. Gretchen filed for divorce from the former child star in April 2007 citing irreconcilable differences. The couple's relationship was the focus of the reality show, Breaking Bonaduce.
According to legal documents, Gretchen has been shopping around several reality shows, including one about her music career. Papers signed by a judge say Danny Bonaduce is also looking to produce a new TV program: He's keeping the rights to a show called The Next Mrs. Bonaduce.
CAREER
Bonaduce's eponymous debut LP was released in 1973 by Lion Records, a subsidiary label of MGM Records. Bonaduce has admitted that his vocals can barely be heard on the album; most of the singing was provided by Bruce Roberts.
Bonaduce made several movies during and after the run of The Partridge Family. Perhaps the most memorable of his films was Corvette Summer (released in 1978), starring Mark Hamill (of Star Wars fame.) Hamill and Bonaduce played high school students who went in search of a stolen customized Corvette Stingray. Bonaduce also made guest appearances on several TV shows, including multiple appearances on the popular police dramedy CHiPs. His career withered in the early 1980s.
Bonaduce and Partridge Family costar Dave Madden made cameo appearances in a 1994 episode of Married with Children. That same year, he appeared on an episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast. He has also guest-starred in the first two episodes of the seventh season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and as the son of Shirley Jones' character in the fourth season of The Drew Carey Show. Bonaduce has appeared as himself on the detective series Monk, and on the show Girlfriends. Bonaduce guest-starred with J. D. Roth (who he would later reunite with for Breaking Bonaduce) on an episode of Sex Wars. In 1999, Bonaduce appeared in the Christmas episode, "Sabrina, Nipping at Your Nose", of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, after Salem buys a Twelve Days of Christmas package at the 89 Cents Store, Bonaduce appears sitting in a pear tree, which Salem then exclaims, "Danny Bonaduce! This is the best "Partridge" in a pear tree I could ask for!".
He also played a small cameo role in The Jerk Theory.
BOXING CAREER
As an adult, Bonaduce boxed Donny Osmond in a charity event and later boxed former Brady, Barry Williams, in a separate event. Both contests were won by Bonaduce, gaining a decision over Osmond and a TKO over Williams. On June 11, 2007, it was announced that Bonaduce would box attorney Robert Shapiro for a charitable event.
On September 13, 2008, it was announced that "Reverend" Bob Levy had been defeated by Bonaduce by a TKO in the second 1 minute round of a planned 3 round fight. Prior to the event, Levy had slapped Bonaduce while Bonaduce's dressing room was being visited by Levy.
It was announced in early January 2009 that Bonaduce would box against retired baseball player Jose Canseco at a charity event in the Philadelphia area. He reportedly trained for the bout in Sacramento California with boxing great Angelo Nunez. On January 24, 2009, it was confirmed that Bonaduce and Canseco had fought to a majority draw, even though Canseco outweighed Bonaduce by 100 lbs and had a one foot height advantage.
